Overview

The IKA T 65 digital ULTRA-TURRAX® is a high-performance, industrial-grade disperser engineered for reproducible, scalable batch processing in pilot-scale and production-integrated laboratory environments. Based on the proven ULTRA-TURRAX® principle—high-shear rotor-stator homogenization—the system generates intense hydrodynamic cavitation and turbulent flow to achieve rapid particle size reduction, emulsification, suspension stabilization, and dispersion of powders into liquids. Its 2.2 kW motor output delivers consistent torque across the full speed range (1,000–9,500 rpm), enabling operation with small-diameter rotors at high peripheral speeds while maintaining stable rotational velocity—even under dynamic viscosity changes up to 5,000 mPa·s. Designed for integration into GMP-adjacent workflows, the unit complies with DIN EN 60529 (IP 54) for dust and water resistance and supports operation in ambient conditions ranging from 5 to 40 °C at ≤80 % relative humidity.

Key Features

  • Digitally controlled, infinitely variable speed regulation with real-time LED display (7-segment, rpm resolution ±10 rpm)
  • Electronic overload protection and error-code diagnostics for predictive maintenance and operational transparency
  • Reversible rotation direction for optimized material flow control and reduced vortex formation in low-viscosity media
  • Quick-release, plug-in coupling for dispersing tools—enabling tool change without tools or alignment procedures
  • Stainless steel dispersing tools rated for use under vacuum or overpressure conditions (up to 6 bar, depending on configuration)
  • Robust cast-aluminum housing with integrated cooling fins and vibration-damped base for extended duty-cycle stability
  • Compliance with CE, EMC, and Low Voltage Directive standards; compatible with ISO/IEC 17025-compliant calibration protocols

Sample Compatibility & Compliance

The T 65 digital accommodates aqueous and non-aqueous systems across a broad rheological spectrum—from low-viscosity solvents (e.g., ethanol, acetone) to highly structured pastes and thermosensitive suspensions. Its three interchangeable rotor-stator geometries (S 65 KG, HH, G 65) allow precise adaptation to distinct process demands: fine dispersion (G 65), high-throughput homogenization (S 65 KG), and viscous paste processing (HH). All wetted parts are electropolished AISI 316 stainless steel, supporting cleaning-in-place (CIP) compatibility and meeting FDA-relevant surface roughness criteria (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm). The system supports audit-ready documentation per GLP and 21 CFR Part 11 when paired with IKA Labworldsoft™ (optional), including electronic signatures, user access levels, and immutable audit trails.

Software & Data Management

While the T 65 digital operates as a stand-alone instrument with local parameter control, it is fully interoperable with IKA Labworldsoft™ v5.0+ via RS232 or optional USB-to-RS232 adapter. This enables remote start/stop, real-time rpm logging, time-stamped event recording (e.g., speed changes, error triggers), and export of CSV-formatted datasets for statistical process analysis. Data integrity safeguards include automatic timestamping, operator ID tagging, and encrypted storage—facilitating traceability required under ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and pharmaceutical quality systems. Calibration certificates (traceable to PTB/NIST) and performance verification reports can be generated directly from the software interface.

Applications

  • Preparation of nanosuspensions and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) for drug delivery development
  • Homogenization of polymer masterbatches prior to extrusion or injection molding trials
  • Dispersion of carbon black, TiO₂, or SiO₂ pigments in coatings, inks, and adhesives R&D
  • Cell lysis and organelle isolation in bioprocessing scale-up studies
  • Stabilization of oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions for food, cosmetic, and agrochemical formulations
  • Mixing of high-solid-content battery electrode slurries (e.g., NMC, LFP cathodes) under inert atmosphere

FAQ

Is the T 65 digital ULTRA-TURRAX® suitable for continuous operation?
Yes—it is rated for continuous duty at ≤80 % of maximum speed (7,600 rpm) with appropriate cooling and load management. For sustained 9,500 rpm operation, intermittent cycling (e.g., 5 min on / 2 min off) is recommended.
Can dispersing tools be autoclaved?
All stainless steel ULTRA-TURRAX® tools (S 65 KG, HH, G 65) are autoclavable at 121 °C / 2 bar for 20 minutes. Verify seal integrity post-sterilization before reuse.
Does the unit support external trigger inputs or analog signal output?
No native 0–10 V or 4–20 mA I/O is provided; however, Labworldsoft™ allows digital triggering via TCP/IP or Modbus RTU when used with an IKA C-MAG HS 7 controller bridge.
What safety certifications does the device hold?
It carries CE marking per Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU, and Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU. Full test reports available upon request.
How is speed accuracy verified during qualification?
Speed accuracy (±3 %) is validated using a traceable optical tachometer calibrated against a NIST-traceable reference standard, per IQ/OQ protocols defined in IKA’s PQ-001-ULTRA-TURRAX document set.
